"The Darkest Hour" Trailer - New Bekmambetov Alien Movie

Check out the newly released trailer of The Darkest Hour, the Timur Bekmambetov/Chris Gorak collaboration alien flick that was posted on Twitch movie site. It's going to be made in 3D and looks to be a movie that will utilize this medium to the extreme. Particularly impressive is the "explosive" affect the aliens have on humans (and a dog).

"Resurrect Dead" Trailer - A Very Unusual Documentary

I stumbled upon this trailer for Resurrect Dead, a documentary about Toynbee tiles, mysterious cryptic message tiles that have been placed on city streets over the past three decades by an unknown individual. After you watch this, I guarantee you'll be doing web searches on it. Very compelling documentary.

Comic-Con Horror/Sci-Fi Movie News

Comic-Con 2011 has come and gone. In case you didn't get a chance to attend, here's a rundown on some of this year's Comic-Con horror/sci-fi movie announcements. Some of the news is exciting, bordering on stupendous, while some of it is pretty bad and yet some is downright horrendous.

JURASSIC PARK 4
Steven Spielberg made an appearance to show footage of The Adventures of Tin Tin, his collaborative effort with Peter Jackson and while there, took some time to discuss Jurassic Park 4. He explained that he already has a story and has picked a screenwriter and the next feature in the dino saga may see the light of day just a few years from now. While I am a sucker for seeing giant reptiles wreck havoc on mankind and it is reassuring to see that this is still Spielberg's project, the worrying term 'overkill' comes to mind. Fingers crossed that he gets it right the 4th time around. Here's a tip, Spielberg: Include a scene of T-rexes and raptors rampaging through a reality TV awards show and tearing faux-celebrities to shreds and you'll please many, many viewers.

SNOW WHITE & THE HUNTSMAN
Universal Pictures had a panel at Comic-Com to hype up their upcoming Snow White & The Huntstman release, with Kristen Stewart playing Snow White, which begins shooting next week in the UK and will be release next year. Charlize Theron plays the evil queen and will no doubt play it perfectly. No disrespect to Miss Twilight, but I'm fairly confident that Theron will steal the show. Still, this isn't the only Snow White movie in the works and this movie is up against a serious challenge in order to be anywhere near as superb as 1997's gothic re-telling of Snow White: A Tale Of Terror, with Signourney Weaver as the Evil Witch.

THE DARKEST HOUR
Director Chris Gorak spoke at Comic-Con about his new Russian alien invasion movie. The story tells of four Americans travelling through Russia when aliens attack. He invigorates the alien genre by creating creatures that utilize lethal energy waves to turn humans to dust, literally. Timur Bekmambetov (Night Watch, Day Watch) is producing and that alone makes me very excited to see The Darkest Hour which hits theaters on December 23rd.

Bizarre News: Rabid Bat Bites Man And His Dog

It sounds like the premise of a B-movie, but this past Sunday a rabid bat attack took place in a town near Los Angeles. The Los Angeles Times reported that when Steve Spence of Moorpark in Ventura County was taking out the trash barefooted, a rabid bat took advantage of the situation and bit his foot. His American bulldog, Pumba, was also bitten (not sure if he got it in the foot or somewhere else). As a precaution, Spence's is taking vaccinations and his house, and dog, are under quarantine.

And the creepy thing about this is that rabid bat attacks are not as rare as one would expect. In fact, according to the news story, "Ventura and Los Angeles counties have both reported larger than normal numbers of rabid bats his summer." While I find this news item strangely fascinating,  from now on, I will most likely be avoiding trash runs in my bare feet.
